PSALM 129: DE PROFUNDIS

For the Holy Souls in Purgatory

1 DE PROFUNDIS clamavi, ad te Domine; * 2 Domine, exaudi vocem meam.	1 OUT OF THE DEPTHS I cry to Thee, O Lord; * 2 O Lord, hear my voice!
Fiant aures tuae intendentes * in vocem deprecationis meae.	Let Thy ears be attentive * to the voice of my supplication:
3 Si iniquitates observaveris, Domine, * Domine, quis sustinebit?	3 If Thou, O Lord, mark one's iniquities, * O Lord, who can stand?
4 Quia apud te propitiatio est; * et propter legem tuam sustinui te, Domine.	4 But with Thee is forgiveness, * and account of Thy law, I have waited for Thee.
Sustinuit anima mea in verbo eius; *  5 speravit anima mea in Domino. *	My soul hath relied upon His word: * 5 my soul hath hoped in the Lord.
6 A custodia matutina usque ad noctem: *  7 speret Israel in Domino;	6 From the morning watch until night, * let Israel hope in the Lord.
7 Quia apud Dominum misericordia, * et copiosa apud eum redemptio.	7 For with the Lord is mercy * and plenteous with Him is redemption;
8 Et ipse redimet Israel * ex omnibus iniquitatibus eius.	8 And He will redeem Israel * from all their iniquities.
REQUIEM aeternam dona ei (eis), Domine, et lux perpetua luceat ei (eis). Requiescat (-ant) in pace. Amen.	ETERNAL rest grant unto him/her (them), O Lord, and let perpetual light shine upon him/her (them). May he/she (they) rest in peace. Amen.
Oremus. Fidelium Deus, omnium conditor et redemptor: animabus famulorum famularumque tuarum remissionem cunctorum tribue peccatorum; ut indulgentiam quam semper optaverunt, piis supplicationibus consequantur: Qui vivis et regnas. R. Amen.	Let us pray. God, the Creator and Redeemer of all the faithful, grant to the souls of your departed servants remission of all sins; and by our fervent prayers may they obtain the pardon they have always desired. We ask this of you who live and reign forever and ever. Amen.

Indulgence of 100 days to all the faithful who, at the sound of the bell, at the first hour after nightfall, shall say devoutly on their knees the psalm De profundis, or the Our Father, the Hail Mary, and the Requiem aeternam.

Plenary indulgence, once a year, on usual conditions. Clement XII., Aug. n, 1736. Pius VI., March 18, 1781, granted these indulgences to all the faithful who may happen to dwell in a place where no bell for the dead is sounded, provided they shall say the De profundis, or the Our Father, and the Hail Mary, etc., about nightfall. Pius IX., July 18, 1877, declared that these indulgences can be gained on the recital as above of the De profundis, or the Our Father, etc., before or after nightfall, provided that the bell is sounded at such hour, according to the custom of the church or place. Leo XIII., Feb. 3, 1888, granted indulgence of 50 days three times a day.

A partial indulgence is granted to the faithful, who piously recite the psalm Out of the depths (Ps 129).
